Reports
ISI Investigators take pride in providing you with timely reports of consistent quality. All reports follow the same format and reflect our proven investigative routine. ISI reports, including enclosures and photo negatives, are retained for 10 years. Reports contain the following information:
Title Page: We will send a confidential report to you or your attorney according to your instructions. It will include reference information to quickly associate the report with the proper claim.
Assignment: Your instructions will be repeated.
Enclosures: All enclosures will be listed.
Subjects: The names, relationship and contact information will be given on each person involved in the loss.
Determination of Fire Origin and Cause: A brief summary of the area of origin and cause of the fire will be given to allow you a quick review.
Structure (or) Vehicle: This section will describe the loss and identify information that will be important to you.
Fire Scene Examination: Burned structures and vehicles are viewed first on the outside to look at fire patterns and examine debris in the area. Moving inside, fire patterns are examined to establish the origin of the fire and debris is carefully removed, layer by layer, from the area of origin to find the cause of the fire. If a vehicle has been removed from the fire scene, it may be necessary to visit the location of the fire to make a proper determination of the cause of the fire. The fire scene examination will be described in detail so that you will know how the Investigator arrived at his fire-cause determination.
Investigation: A complete understanding of all events surrounding a fire may be necessary to make an accurate determination of the cause of a fire. This may require some interviews with witnesses of fire department personnel, who suppressed the fire. ISI Investigators are trained to obtain accurate information in a friendly manner. Important interviews will be taped, with permission, and the information obtained will be included in the report. This section tells you how and when your instructions were completed.
Comments: The investigator may make recommendations for additional investigation or will advise that all your instructions have now been completed.
Photograph Descriptions: You will be given an explanation of what is depicted in the photograph and where each photograph was taken. Your attention may be drawn to fire patterns or specific parts of the photo.
Diagram: A diagram is made of the floor plan of a structure showing where each photo was taken and where the fire originated. A diagram will be made of a vehicle which will also show where the fire started and where each photo was taken.
The finished report is a court-ready document if your claim should become involved in subrogation or litigation.
