My career in the Fire Service and Law Enforcement began in 1965 in San Bernardino County and later moved to Riverside County. As Fire Marshal with the Norco Fire Department, I conducted all fire investigations and received awards for outstanding work with juvenile fire setters. During my association with the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Arson/Bomb Division, I investigated fire and bomb scenes and prepared arson cases for court. My years with a nationwide fire investigation company made me aware of the need for a professional and independent fire investigation company and I started ISI Investigations in 1982.
I have conducted more than 9,000 fire investigations, which include commercial and residential structure fires and all types of vehicle fires. I have established an exceptional record for determining fire origin and cause, in addition to preparing arson and insurance fraud cases for court. I have testified as a Fire-Cause Expert Witness in Federal, Criminal and Civil courts in California, Massachusetts, Washington, Montana, Arizona and Texas.
I am a Certified Fire Investigator through IAAI #22-093. I hold a California Teaching Credential to teach fire investigation and law enforcement and have taught at several community colleges, fire departments, law enforcement agencies and seminars in California, Ohio, Arizona and Nevada. I have also conducted live-fire training classes for the San Bernardino County Fire Academy, the Sheriffs Academy and for many insurance companies and automobile manufacturers. I published all training manuals for these classes and have published a number of articles in newsletters and magazines.
My formal education includes over 1700 hours of fire, fraud and investigation training and 120+ college credits for fire and police science courses. I hold a California State Fire Investigator I Certificate and attended the National Academy for Fire Investigation. I also hold a Peace Officer Standards and Training Certificate.
My affiliation with professional organizations include Riverside County Arson Unit (President 1980), San Bernardino County Arson Unit (President 1983), California Conference of Arson Investigators, International Association of Arson Investigators, National Fire Investigators Association, National Fire Protection Association, and the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators. I served as a San Bernardino County Sheriffs Reserve Deputy for 34 years.
