• Evidence may only be collected when the legal owner of the evidence has authorized the removal from the fire scene.
  • If instructions are received to have the evidence tested, investigators will securely transport the evidence to the engineer or testing facility.
  • When evidence is moved from the care, custody and control of an investigator, this action will be documented with photos, signatures and dates to maintain a chain of custody.
Fire cause determinations should be supported by physical evidence that will confirm findings through examination and testing.  ISI Investigations has a policy that evidence will be collected from a fire scene when we are legally authorized to do so.  Once evidence is removed from a fire scene it will be securely stored by the investigator.  It will be protected from all alterations during the storage or examination by other individuals and will only be discarded after ISI receives proper authorization.  We are fully trained to avoid evidence spoilation when involved with suborgation or litigation.
